Sahara Rose

Finding your purpose is quite an intimidating concept, so much so that we often brush it aside. Rather than confronting it, we tend to focus on superficial, mundane things instead. You might already be feeling like you no longer love what you’re doing right now. Loving life then appears challenging, but doing so is not impossible.

In today’s episode, Sahara Rose shares valuable insight on how we can break free from that circumstance. She tells us about her journey in loving life and discovering her purpose and gives us tools to get in alignment, inside and out. Sahara also imparts her thoughts on how we can deal with people around us who are not aligned with our needs.

If you’re struggling to find what exactly your purpose is, this episode is for you!

    Episode Highlights

    Rosie Congratulates Sahara

    • Sahara says that living the Dharma is about showing up fully to any experience before you, even if it means having to do the things you do not want at that time.

    • Sahara thanks Rosie for being a part of the process.

    • Rosie praises Sahara’s book and talks about Sahara’s journey on coming to and loving life through the book.

    On Feeling Lost and Detracted

    • Life is not meaningless although the path of loving life and finding meaning can be so daunting that most of us tend to give up.

    • Sahara initially loved working with NGOs and human rights and going to law school to become an international human rights lawyer. However, as soon as she was in the NGO cubicle, she began hating it. She did not feel like helping people and sharing her gifts.

    • Instead of looking inwards, she would go around asking other people what they thought her purpose was.

    • Sahara started questioning her life purpose and even underwent hormone replacement therapy.

How Sahara’s Health Issues Brought Her to Ayurveda

    • Sahara’s body experienced several health conditions that came with perimenopause at a very young age.

    • Because of her condition, she became obsessed with finding other ways to heal.

    • Her obsession with getting her body back in balance brought her to discovering Ayurveda. This also prompted her to write her book.

    On the Dharma Archetypes

    • Sahara talks about three elemental archetypes and how each type has a different path in terms of Dharma.

    • For example, air archetypes tend to have different manifestations of their Dharma throughout their lives. Dharma is your soul’s purpose. It is the energy that only you can carry.

    • Fire archetypes are more likely to have one idea and just really go for it. However, this does not mean that they have no other interests.

    • The third archetype, earth, tends to have a purpose in their relationships and connections with people. Motherhood is a part of their Dharma.

    How Your Dharma is Non-Linear

    • Sahara shares that your Dharma is not a one-time process.

    • Your Dharma brings you to a purpose, which you can focus on for years and years before you eventually step away from it.

    • She related the Dharma process to a mountain range–you reach your first peak and see that there’s more.

    • To hear more about the non-linearity of Dharma, tune in to this episode.

    Remembering Your Dharma

    • Your Dharma is not something you find but rather remember throughout your life. It is all about loving life.

    • Sahara relates your Dharma to being your naked body, stripped from all the superficial things and self-doubt.

    • Your Dharma is when you unravel and remember your truth.

The First Four Stages of Dharma Discovery

    • The first stage is the self-awareness stage that something needs to change.

    • The second stage is self-improvement once you become aware.

    • In the third stage of your Dharma discovery, you shift from self-care and self-improvement to getting to know yourself.

    • Once you find your practice, you have reached the fourth stage.

    • Tune in to this episode to learn more about the first four stages of Dharma!

Hitting the Fifth Stage of Your Dharma

    • The fifth stage is Dharma embodiment wherein your inside and outside match, and you no longer keep your intent and purpose a secret.

    • At this stage, everything in your life has to be in alignment, including your relationships with people. Otherwise, Sahara shares, those things not in alignment will hold you back.

    • In stage five, it is about Dharma as a way of serving humanity. Here, the focus is “we.”

    • This where the “sacred doing” works where the “being” and “doing” merge.

    • Listen to the podcast and discover the truth behind the fifth stage of Dharma!

When Your Family Doesn’t Support You

    • Sahara talks about how your views can be entirely different, especially if your parents are part of the baby boomer generation. The focus then was survival.

    • She discusses Maslow’s hierarchy of needs.

    • Sahara says it takes a cultural and generational understanding and compassion to help us make sense of these differences.

    • Sometimes the worst thing that could happen, like becoming estranged from your family, can be the best thing for you.

On Partners Not In Alignment with You

    • Sahara talks about her previous relationship with her ex, who was not only unspiritual but also destructive. He actively prevented her from living her Dharma.

    • Eventually, she found a partner who supported her without her having to ask.

    • Sahara says when you’re surrounded by people who are in alignment with you, it gives you the surge to do more.

Letting Go and Allowing Your Dharma to Evolve

    • It’s important to allow our Dharma to evolve, rather than hold onto something we’ve been working on for so long.

    • Even if you’ve been working on something for quite a while, it can eventually burn you out because it’s no longer your purpose.

    • Letting go of what you currently have gives space for the next iteration of your Dharma to come through.
