Constant Change: Look How Far You’ve Come with Katie Dalebout

We get different reactions whenever we look at old photos of ourselves. Some of us feel nostalgic, some feel embarrassed, and some are even in disbelief. It could be the old hairstyle, fashion choices, or even the way we posed for those pictures — all these remind us of our humble beginnings.

They also remind us how things have changed.

As many years passed, you’ve now embodied not just a different appearance but also varying views, opinions, and principles. This is the magic of change! Every person, challenge, and encounter contributes to our development as a person. As we go through new experiences every day, how can we fully embrace these changes?

In this episode of Wisdom Wednesday, Rosie welcomes Katie Dalebout once again on the Radically Loved podcast. Years after their last episode together, they catch up and talk about their transitional periods and the ways they have come to accept their present moments. Katie also shares her experience moving around the country and how she found herself at home in an unexpected place.

Tune in to this episode and see the magic of accepting constant change into a new life.

    Episode Highlights

    [1:53] Where is Katie Now

    • Katie moved from New Yorker to Los Angeles last 2020.

    • She has already been living there for two years, but the scenery in LA never fails to delight her.

    • However, she hasn’t been able to experience much beyond her neighborhood.

    • Katie realizes that there’s always a community for you wherever you go.

    • Moving to LA during the pandemic taught her the importance of being rooted in a place and community.

    [12:08] On Moving Around Places

    • As a child, Katie often heard of New York through sensationalized media and hoped that she could experience living there one day.

    • Initially, she moved to Detroit for her job after college and found that the city was a great place for her.

    • Katie grew to accept and enjoy wherever she moved to. However, she continued to travel to different places.

    • Her plans to move to New York were well-thought-out and prepared for.

    • In contrast, it originally wasn’t her plan to stay long-term in Los Angeles, and she was unprepared. In time, she accepted where she is now and found it even better.

    [23:20] The Results of Change

    • Katie has drastically changed since 2017.

    • Looking back, she could tell the choices she made before would have been different from now.

    • She’s glad she has grown and evolved from her past self.

    [25:59] Evolution of Your Identity

    • Your core identity constantly pushes you to evolve.

    • One of Katie’s defining identities is being different from the others. She has also determined her signature moves.

    • Everyone’s identity is unique. People are influenced by the culture and environment around them.

    • Katie tried to diversify her knowledge and took inspiration from people in her life.

    • A trick to creativity is being present in what’s around you. Allow yourself to be inspired and experiment with different possibilities.

    [38:04] In Process

    • In Process is a group that Katie started during the pandemic.

    • It’s about creativity and facing things outside of your control.

    • The group changes themes every month and practices a creative cycle: creating space, gathering inspiration, deciding what sticks, and sharing with others.

    [40:36] Love and Support

    • Katie feels radically loved when she feels supported.

    • She allows herself to feel what she is feeling and finds support from the people around her.
